“A dark, strong lip with luminescent skin and darkened brows is a great look for holiday,”
attests makeup visionary James Kaliardos, who created the mouthy visage for Pasadena-based Rodarte designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy’s Fall 2016 show. “They understand beauty so well,” says Kaliardos, who founded the conceptual multi-format publication Visionaire and has collaborated on campaigns and covers with the world’s most famous faces.
Here, he explains how to achieve this punk pout:
“1. Sharpen the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Train Bleu ($26) to a thick but pointy, precise tip so it glides on.
2. Fill in the center for full coverage and use Q-Tips to roll around and soften the edge of the lip line so it goes from superdense color to a soft edge. (If Train Bleu is too dark, try Nars Audacious Lipstick in Charlotte, $32.)
3. Keeping eyes luminous and cheeks shiny adds to the strong message.
[For runway] I darkened the brow with a tiny bit of mascara just on the hairs.” narscosmetics.com.
