No one embodies tousled parisian cool quite like Caroline de Maigret. The French model, music producer and co-author of the cult favorite book How to Be Parisian Wherever You Are: Love, Style and Bad Habits is also a chanel ambassador and face of the house’s new gabrielle bag campaign. Fittingly, the versatile quilted accessory is the perfect travel companion for her recent Golden State adventures: “I’m a 24-hour girl,” she says of her day-to-night style philosophy. “I like the idea of not knowing where I’m going, but that [the bag] will fit wherever I am.” chanel.com; cdmdiary.com.

Shutters on the Beach

“My favorite hotel here, because when you come from Paris to L.A., you want palm trees, sun and sea.”

Joshua Tree

“What’s nice about the desert and California in general is it’s really a family place—fun for kids and adults. My son can climb the rocks and look at the cacti.”

Pioneertown Motel

“I wish we had a few more days here. We slept in this beautiful room where Roy Rogers once stayed. I love this hotel—very nice and chic in its simplicity.”

The Friend Bar

“One of my good friends from Paris, André Saraiva, opened this new bar and restaurant in Silver Lake. He has some of the coolest clubs in Paris and New York and always creates a place that makes you feel at home.”

Tenderloin District

“S.F.’s Tenderloin has a European vibe—you can walk to places, but it also has that good California energy.”

Desert X

“When Chanel invited me to come to California, I knew about the exhibition and had dreamed of it since seeing all of the pictures on Instagram. Doug Aitken is such a great artist. I love the fact that the art is open to everyone and you can stumble on a piece in the desert almost by accident.”
