Mat Sanders and Brandon Quattrone, founders of the design firm Consort, don’t have your run-of-the-mill startup story.
Three years ago both were living in New York when they met (and subsequently started dating). Shortly thereafter, Sanders moved to L.A. to launch mydomaine.com, where he’s currently editor-at-large. Quattrone, who had previously worked at the architecture firm SHoP, followed to assist SoulCycle with its West Coast expansion. Before even putting down their own roots, a friend and admirer of their glossy-meets-eclectic style asked them to design a house in Telluride, CO. A second side project (pictured above) for Fall Out Boy guitarist Joe Trohman and his wife, Marie Goble, came next. “We both said, ‘I guess we are going to do this!’ ” remarks Quattrone of the firm’s inception. Now the duo is busy with projects up and down the coast, from new construction in Hermosa Beach to a modern Venice beach house. And in December, they will partner with Goble on a design shop in Los Angeles. 6918 Melrose Ave., L.A., 323-930-5688; consort-design.com.
