A Bladerunner-inspired beauty tutorial from C’s pro team
“The shoot was Blade Runner inspired—a beautiful woman swimming in moody colored lights and dark shadows. It’s gritty and a little seedy, but sexy,” says makeup artist Jo Strettell of the look she created for the “Night Rider” fashion feature, p.130. “I needed to use and place products that would work in these elements.” It was all about the eyes, explains the artist, who used Jillian Dempsey’s Khôl Eyeliner in Jet Black ($20) smudged over the eye and her Lid Tint in Plum ($28) over the pencil for a “wet” effect, followed by layers of L’Oréal’s Voluminous Original Mascara ($7) to achieve clumpy black lashes designed to catch the light in a profile shot. On the face, she applied Glossier Priming Moisturizer ($22) for glow, with minimal foundation and a smudge of Glossier Cloud Paint in Dusk ($18) on the cheeks with a dab of lip gloss. (Translate the look to real life by following the same steps, but pulling back on the amount of product.)
Christian Marc kept the hair wet and sleek, mixing three Oribe products—Supershine Moisturizing Cream ($52), Smooth Style Serum ($54) and Star Glow Styling Wax ($42)—to get the right texture and shine. For daytime wear, apply the products to wet hair, comb through, and let dry.
