Sexy fringe, modern shags and wavy bobs make the cut
He’s worked at the best salons in New York and L.A. Now, celebrity hairstylist Cervando Maldonado is readying to debut a place of his own, a 1,300-square-foot location in West Hollywood named 454 North. “Once I saw the space, I fell in love,” Maldonado says of the 13-station spot, whose curated ’70s French-inspired decor befits his stylish clientele, including Reese Witherspoon, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Lily Aldridge and Kirsten Dunst. As for his forecast for summer tresses: “I’m loving a long layered haircut with either a long, soft fringe or beautiful face-framing layers around the chin.” His tools of the trade: T3 Hot Rollers: “Just roll them in and pull them out about 10 to 15 minutes later for a finished, more polished look.” Sheila Stotts Removal Brush: “I use it to brush out wet and dry hair, which it does effortlessly. I tell my clients to keep one in their purse at all times.” Sachajuan Volume Powder: “Gives great volume and texture and also comes in a shade for brunettes.”

Let’s cut to the chase, here’s what’s in: modern shags, sexy fringe, wavy bobs, layered pixies and long blunt cuts. And the color? “Golden bronde,” a shade between blonde and brown. Also on-trend: smoky roots (ombre focused on the roots) and the always-in-demand beachy highlights.
PRO TIP: “Even with a more blunt cut, it’s still all about tousled texture, so I implement internal layers to get that ‘cool girl’ vibe and make styling easier.” —Stevie Craft, Lavender Salon, Newport Beach.
