Korean tradition is celebrated at Studio Kō
When Ibi Yoo moved to Los Angeles in 2011, certain aromas would remind her of her hometown of Ilsan, South Korea. She founded The Awesome Candle, based in Highland Park, as part of her quest to re-create her scent memories. It’s with that same sentiment that Yoo launched Studio Kō, her online shop of lifestyle brands that represent Korean tradition and its reinterpretation (kō is Korean for “nose”). There, you’ll find Hanahzo soaps made from mung beans and rice bran; exclusive, custom-made ceramics by L.A.-based Korean-American artists Eunbi Cho and Seoyen K. Choi; and Seoul-based Oimu incense holders. “Studio Kō is my way of revealing that what is present is also firmly rooted in our past,” Yoo explains. studioko.la.
