Snag a Seat at One of the Season’s Most Experiential Tables
It’s been nearly 20 years since artist and chef Jim Denevan introduced his hyper-local culinary concept, Outstanding in the Field. The ticketed dinner series (launched in 1999 in Santa Cruz) brings together chefs and farmers, showcasing ingredients in alfresco sunset meals staged on the land where the bounty is sourced. Denevan has mounted feasts in every U.S. state and 15 countries—collaborating with the likes of Donnie Masterton of The Restaurant in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and Gabrielle Hamilton of New York City’s Prune—against backdrops ranging from the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival to Japan’s Mount Fuji. This summer, score a ticket to one of several scenic dinners offered across the state: San Diego chef Brian Redzikowski presides over the table at Temecula Olive Oil Company’s olive grove (June 2), Val M. Cantu, one of Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs 2017, takes over McEvoy Ranch in Petaluma (June 20), and more. Tickets from $225. outstanding
