Palo Alto’s Hermès store is ahead of its time
Given former California Gov. Leland Stanford’s penchant for raising some of the world’s fastest horses, it’s only fitting that the house of Hermès—which began as a harness-maker with an eye for lavish interpretations of practical necessities—open a light-filled boutique in Palo Alto at the Stanford Shopping Center. Yet the space, containing all métiers from leather goods to ready-to-wear, also includes a nod to Silicon Valley’s innovation obsession—think digital installations by Eric Vernhes and a host of Apple Watches. Stanford Shopping Center, 180 El Camino Real, Ste. 317B, Palo Alto, 650-321-2466; hermes.com.
