Heidi Swanson’s decision to start 101Cookbooks in early 2003 was a straightforward one: “When you own over 100 cookbooks, it is time to stop buying, and time to start cooking.” Since then, she has featured thousands of healthy, whole-food recipes on the site—and also in print: Her fourth cookbook, Near & Far (Ten Speed Press, $29), is coming out this fall. And when she’s not in the kitchen, Swanson also runs the online culinary boutique Quitokeeto (quitokeeto.com).
Mornings often begin with a visit to the Ferry Building Farmers Market (cuesa.org) and a stop by the shops inside, including Boulettes Larder (bouletteslarder.com). I’m also a big fan of the brunch menu at Nopa (nopasf.com). For an active afternoon, I’ll hike the Arch Rock Trail from the Bear Valley Visitor Center to the coast in Point Reyes. And in the evening, The Monk’s Kettle (monkskettle.com) is a great place for a drink before dinner at Bar Tartine (bartartine.com).
