Remembering Oscar de la Renta

by C California Style

at Lake Tahoe, 2005.

Fashion designer Oscar de la Renta (1932–2014) was a Renaissance man in the truest sense: an artist, businessman, avid gardener, husband, father and gentleman. But most markedly, de la Renta was an admirer of women, and devoted his life and career to making them feel beautiful. Each summer for the past 14 years, he traveled to the shores of Lake Tahoe for a fashion show to benefit the League to Save Lake Tahoe. It was an unorthodox site for a catwalk, but the designer relished the opportunity to catch up with his San Francisco clientele. In 2005, he told C, “Lake Tahoe is like a second home to me. It is an extremely beautiful place…really a gift from God.”
