The extraordinary relics inside Jean Dousset’s new Melrose Avenue showroom include Louis Cartier’s Regency Era armchair circa 1800s, an engraved silver ink blotter with plume, and a 1904 Friant sketch of Cartier.
As Cartier’s great-great grandson, Dousset works among one-of-a-kind family heirlooms reminiscent of the intimate, well-appointed salons of Place Vendôme, where the Frenchman took his first job at Chaumet to learn the art of gem selection, design and manufacturing. A subsequent position under Alain Boucheron led to a move to L.A. with Van Cleef & Arpels before he finally struck out on his own in 2005. Specializing in engagement sparklers (as seen on Amy Adams and Jennifer Lopez), stacking bands and earrings, Dousset is a chip off the old block when it comes to custom orders. 8471 Melrose Ave., WeHo, 323-944-0855;
