“I was inspired by the movement of a swirling skirt.
Each piece is a play with these expressive gestures,” explains De Beers’ newest (and youngest) head designer, Hollie Bonneville Barden, of this season’s Aria collection. The 27-year-old Central Saint Martins grad also recently released her first engagement ring design for the label—the pavé diamond-accented Caress ring—last spring. “I’m drawn to fluidity and abstraction and wanted to create something that could become a modern classic,” she explains. From fashioning mood boards to painting sketches and motifs, every step in Barden’s creative process reflects her preference for jewelry that is both timeless and personal. She says, “You want to be able to look back in 20 or 30 years and be just as happy as you were then.” debeers.com.
