A Revamped Hotel in Los Olivos Steeped in History |
|

Originally built in 1886 as a stopover for stagecoaches traveling between L.A. and S.F. during California’s Gold Rush and later as a hangout during the Prohibition era, The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern has also attracted high-profile guests from John D. Rockefeller to Clark Gable throughout its fabled history. This summer, the landmark property (now owned by Malibu-based Brian R. Strange and Shamra Strange, who’ve teamed up with Auberge Resorts Collection) reopens as a luxurious destination for a new kind of a traveler. In the heart of Santa Ynez wine country, the reimagined 67-room property exudes nostalgic Americana with charming white clapboard cottages that surround the main guest house. Nearby, there’s the serene pool, an onsite restaurant and a full-service wellness center dubbed the Lavender Barn. Wine Country’s Cultural Festival Celebrates 16 Years
|

Festival Napa Valley bills itself as the ten best days of summer for good reason. This month, the 16th season of the cherished valley-wide musical event opens at Charles Krug with Carlo Ponti conducting Leonard Bernstein’s “Overture to Candide” performed by Festival Orchestra Napa. The days that ensue feature a firehose stream of wine, culture and gourmet meals at world-class establishments including HALL, Quintessa, Far Niente, Nickel & Nickel, The Four Seasons, Bardessono and Trinchero Family Estates. Don’t miss performances from Grammy Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell and internationally acclaimed soprano Larisa Martínez, The Young People’s Chorus of New York City, Trisha Yearwood, the annual Dance Gala (with talent from New York City Ballet and San Francisco Ballet) and, of course, the valley’s beloved Festival Orchestra Napa.
