Beth Hutchens toasts the opening of her jewelry line’s first West Coast boutique

By the light of an October supermoon, FoundRae’s trove of gold jewelry designs — already eye-catching inside vitrines suspended from crescent-shaped perches — seemed even brighter as Beth Hutchens welcomed guests to her new Los Angeles boutique on Thursday, October 17. In addition to opening the doors of her vine-covered shop, Hutchens created an alfresco cocktail lounge at the corner of Melrose Place and Melrose Avenue in celebration of the evening. A host of friends, colleagues, and admirers of the line stopped by, including January Jones, Aurora James, Sarah Paulson, Allison Janney, Robin Tunney, Ryan Michelle Bathe, Amanda Alagem, Tara Swennen, Kyle Richards, Austyn Weiner, Tara Rudes Dann, Philippe Uter, and Sona Gasparian. Fellow jewelry designers Anita Ko and Pamela Love were also on hand to greet Hutchens, who also noted a lot of kinship along the shopping street. “It really does feel like a community and a neighborhood,” she said. “I’ve always romanticized this street. It’s so different from any street in New York.”
Inside the store, the line’s lexicon of symbols spanned the ceiling. Emblems for strength, karma, dreams, resilience, true love, wholeness, and many more also appeared on the baubles themselves, designed to become modern heirlooms. As cocktails made the rounds, guests layered on chains and charms while the shop’s artisans worked on engravings and customized pieces. Hutchens’ love of printed cards and ephemera was also on display: She and her team designed dozens of vignettes with taped images and texts that resonated with nearby designs. Hutchens even created a tiny mouse-size room with bookshelves, chairs, and miniature FoundRae shopping bags in the bottom corner of a shelf. “You can really get lost in the rabbit holes,” Hutchens said. As guests got a look at the boutique itself, with all its hidden treasures, they opened drawer after drawer seeking out pieces unique to the new space. One discovery got lots of interest: the line’s new angelic cherub medallion, a nod to the City of Angels, that’s exclusive to the L.A. store.
