A cocktail party set amid the hilltop home’s sprawling orchards and gardens introduced the new line

Burberry set the unveiling of its Highgrove collection high atop a Los Angeles hillside filled with dense gardens and orchards, home to Richard Christiansen’s Flamingo Estate, on Friday, May 16. As Palomas with thick slices of grapefruit made the rounds and guests got a look at the 75 brick stairs descending to the terraced grounds below, the British house launched a collection conceived with the outdoors in mind, honoring its relationship with Highgrove Gardens surrounding the private residence of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla in the Cotswolds. While the sun was still high in the sky in Eagle Rock, Christiansen hosted Aimee Song, Art Production Fund’s Casey Fremont, Salem Mitchell, Marlon Garcia, Djuna Bel, Karolyn Pho, Morgan Stewart McGraw, and many others who gathered to celebrate. Fires lit in the house’s living room, and also in its Brutalist bath house designed by Studio KO, fought off any lingering chill from the morning marine layer.
While bees and dragonflies lingered in blooming thickets near hives, baskets of brightly colored lemons, oranges, and tangerines sat neatly arranged at the house’s entrance. The harvested citrus, part of a trove of other fruits, vegetables, and flowers Christiansen cultivates for the bath, pantry, and apothecary products he creates — also incorporating goods from more than 120 farms for his line — had hues similar to the collection’s hand-drawn artwork by London-based textile designer Helen Bullock. Daniel Lee, chief creative officer at Burberry, tapped Bullock to create the print depicting the trellises of sweet peas, cosmos, poppies, and other greenery found in Highgrove’s kitchen garden. Her art appears throughout the 28-piece collection, from organic silk scarves to certified wool cardigans (Highgrove is known for its organic gardens) as well as jackets, trench coats and hats, womenswear, and menswear. A pajama shirt and pants in silk twill seemed particularly ideal for Christiansen’s property, elegantly combining hedonism with nature’s bounty — just as he has.
