Palisociety reinvigorates a classic in one of L.A.’s most distinct neighborhoods
Words by SARAH GAVISH
Open as of last month, Silver Lake Pool & Inn sits on the east end of Santa Monica Boulevard, just a moment’s walk from the buzz of Sunset Junction, where you can find indie shops, galleries and more. Designed with respect to its historic location, the establishment’s outward appearance includes unassuming whitewashed stone walls and a giant “POOL” sign that beckons to local skeptics: Come see what I’m about.
The hotel is one of the most recent endeavors of Avi Brosh’s Palisociety — and the first property to open under Palisociety’s new independent hotels platform — completed in partnership with master fixer-uppers Timberlane Partners and Venice-based design studio Electric Bowery. Unmistakably Californian, the inn boasts defining touches from beloved locals (art by Alexandra Berg, prints by Block Shop, and terrazzo nightstands and vanities by Concrete Collaborative) that blend with oversized succulents and calming neutral tones.
But there is a concurrent air of faraway dreaminess, owing to details inspired by Mexico, Morocco and Italy. Striped umbrellas shading tables on the terrace of Marco Polo, the inn’s on-site restaurant, call to mind the Amalfi Coast as guests tuck into saffron rice while Euro pop plays.
The 54 gorgeous rooms — ranging in size from 250 to 1,440 square feet — feature uniquely textured walls, leather and wood furniture, and vintage-inspired lighting. A casual pool deck with panoramic views is open to walk-ins (for an F&B minimum) and overnight guests alike. Or post up at the bar, strategically U-shaped for intimacy and to encourage familiarity among strangers. With a cultural calendar promising unique future events and collaborations, Silver Lake Pool & Inn certainly seems committed to being a place for both indulgence and community-building — two things we could all use a little more of these days.
From $225/night. 4141 Santa Monica Blvd., L.A., 323-327-9702.
