The cover girl and Belletrist cofounder welcomed friends to a dinner held at The Maybourne Beverly Hills’ rooftop restaurant

Emma Roberts gathered friends to celebrate the release of C Magazine’s Fall Fashion issue with its cover story on the actor-producer’s hugely successful online book club Belletrist at a dinner held at Dante Beverly Hills atop The Maybourne Beverly Hills on Thursday, September 14. In the new issue, the Los Angeles–raised Roberts, who cofounded the avidly followed site with her New York–based friend Karah Preiss in 2017, discusses her eclectic taste in reading alongside her favorite L.A. literary haunts, Sunset Boulevard’s Book Soup and downtown’s The Last Bookstore. As founders of Belletrist Productions, the pair are also on the hunt for works to develop. Roberts confesses that she is never without a physical book in hand and still speaks daily on a landline, a revelation she says people find shocking.
To celebrate the issue’s launch, the cover girl welcomed Brit Elkin, Ally Gasparian, Tiffany Paulsen, Nikki Reed, John Owen Lowe, Daniela Villegas and Sami Hayek, Oliver English, Oliver Trevena, and Cosima and Beau Swayze to a rooftop dinner as the sun set beyond the city skyline. The American Horror Story and Scream Queens actor and her guests, some of whom brought along literary-themed Olympia Le-Tan minaudières as a testament to their bibliophilia, dined on a menu that included Dante’s signature burrata, heirloom tomatoes, and peaches; spicy organic chicken alla diavola; crispy Ora King salmon; and roasted cauliflower and baby carrots. Cocktails included an Aperol and passion fruit spritz, a Negroni azzurro, and Dante’s not-to-be-missed Garibaldi with its just-right combination of Campari and orange juice, in a hue not dissimilar to that of the evening sky.
