Friends of the label gathered at Flamingo Estate to fete the new volume
Words by ANUSH J. BENLIYAN
Fashion and photography devotees flocked to the vibrant Flamingo Estate in Los Angeles on Saturday, Sept. 28, to applaud the release of the first fully comprehensive book about the house of Missoni.
Angela Missoni and her brother Luca Missoni — the creative duo behind the fashion label — were joined by longtime friend and music legend Quincy Jones in hosting the affair, which featured a special musical performance by Grammy-nominated artists Alfredo Rodriguez and Pedrito Martinez.
Friends of the brand — including Angela Bassett, Richard Christiansen, Macy Gray, Nicole Scherzinger, Evan Ross, Ashlee Simpson and Roman Coppola — and other members of the iconic family, among them actor Jennifer Missoni and designer Theresa Missoni, came together to enjoy live music and refreshments, and fete Missoni: The Great Italian Fashion.
The new book, written by Massimiliano Capella, delves into the Italian house’s history via previously unpublished photographs, drawings, color palettes, fabrics and patterns from the archives, and spotlights past collaborators, from illustrators to fashion editors. Also in the tome: essays that elaborate upon past artistic decisions, the company’s international success and the future of Missoni.
Before the evening’s celebration, Angela and Luca made a special appearance earlier that day at the nearby Highland Park bookstore Owl Bureau, where they partook in a live discussion about the new book and signed copies for fans.
