The Mark Hotel NYC

At the corner of 77th Street and Madison Avenue in Manhattan, The Mark holds court as one of the city’s most rarified stays, where old-world elegance meets style-driven cache. Set inside a 1920s neo–Italian Renaissance landmark, the bold, lavish property was reimagined by famed French decorator Jacques Grange, who infused it with his signature neo-deco flair: custom fabrics and furnishings, museum-worthy objects, and a dream cast of collaborators including Ron Arad, Vladimir Kagan, Paul Mathieu, Todd Eberle, and Karl Lagerfeld. The hotel’s now-iconic black-and-white striped floors? Pure Grange. (Note: The Mark’s interiors will soon be immortalized in a coffee table book from Assouline.)

Upstairs, the guest rooms and suites are quietly cinematic — layered in texture, softened by light, and made personal through one-of-kind furnishings and artwork. The crown jewel: a 10,000-square-foot, two-story penthouse (the largest in North America), complete with five bedrooms, a conservatory, a library lounge, and a rooftop terrace suspended above Central Park. This season it will add a state-of-the-art technogym, an Augustinus Bader spa, and an outdoor cold-plunge.

Of course, life at The Mark spills far beyond the suite. The concierge desk doubles as a cultural compass, curating a version of New York that feels both insider and unforgettable. Start with a Bergdorf-ready blowout at Frédéric Fekkai, then slip into an emerald mohair banquette at Caviar Kaspia for a flute of Champagne and a tin of blinis. Later, hail the Mark Hot Dog Cart, where Jean-Georges gives the city’s classic street fare a decadent twist, or book a private after-hours tour of the Met. For a finale? Sunset on The Mark Sailboat, cruising past the skyline and the Statue of Liberty. Are you in a New York state of mind yet? themarkhotel.com.
