Tumi creative director Victor Sanz gathered guests with a penchant for far-flung adventure at Tumi’s newly reopened Costa Mesa boutique on Wednesday, September 24, in partnership with C Magazine. Sanz, who studied industrial design at New York’s Pratt Institute and has spent more than two decades shaping the American-based product design house through a fashion lens, welcomed those gathered at the South Coast Plaza into the new, clean-lined boutique with marble flooring, chrome fixtures, and metallic wallpaper that was stocked with travel essentials. Sanz has led Tumi’s expansion into outerwear, accessories, fragrance, and eyewear while integrating functionality and elevated aesthetics into all the bag lines, and his work was on view inside the new space. Those assembled got a look at the luggage maker’s Voyager collection, leather Agent bags, and Harrison touring essentials. Additionally, 19 Degree wheeled packing cases and trunks were all around, as were 19 Degree Light models with durable hardside shells and lightweight components as well as ballistic nylon Alpha carry-ons and ideal-for-outdoors Alpha Bravo packs.
After passing an array of long-lasting 19 Degree Aluminum, Arrivé, Turin, and Titanium suitcase collections, as well as an assemblage of the line’s colognes and perfumes, guests were inspired to add to mental lists for upcoming excursions. The complimentary monogramming — a key element of personalization ideal for identifying bags in far-flung destinations — inspired visions of matching sets crossing distant lands. Then Sanz led the way to a luncheon at Knife Pleat, helmed by Michelin-starred chef Tony Esnault and restaurateur Yassmin Sarmadi, where guests wove travel tales among the courses served in celebration of the new boutique.
