The burlesque star and chanteuse shares her Valentine’s Day “State of Mind”
If anyone’s perfected the art of seduction, it’s Dita Von Teese. Since her striptease debut in 1992, Von Teese has gone on to become one of the most celebrated names in the world of burlesque, putting an elegant spin on the art form with sold-out shows around the world.
A recognized style icon both on and off stage (who has been tapped to perform for the likes of Louis Vuitton and Christian Louboutin), Von Teese counts lingerie, gloves and hosiery collections to her name, not to mention a candle and fragrance. Now, the author of the New York Times bestseller Your Beauty Mark: The Ultimate Guide to Eccentric Glamour (Dey Street Books/ Harper Collins) adds chanteuse to the list, with the debut of her self-titled album, written and co-produced with French composer Sébastien Tellier.
“I had a fantasy about having a modern Brigitte Bardot and Serge Gainsbourg moment. To describe the album is difficult; perhaps it’s me with less makeup,” says Von Teese. “At times, there’s a certain vulnerability which stands in contrast to my stage image of a confident and glamorous woman. I would never dare say such things in real life, and if I ever really felt like making such declarations of love, I would likely restrain myself right away.”
Ahead of the album’s release on February 16—and just in time for Valentine’s Day—the pinup star shares a few of her lust-haves from State of Mind. Cupid, take note.
