CARMEL
A Home Away From Home by the Sea
Le Petit Pali on Ocean Avenue.
At the heart of Avi Brosh’s Palisociety, an evolving collection of hotels and residences with more than a dozen locations across the country, is the idea of a fabulously posh home away from home. Now Brosh unveils his most personal project yet, a bed-and-breakfast concept dubbed Le Petit Pali, which recently bowed with two locations in the coastal enclave of Carmel-by-the-Sea. On Ocean Avenue, a moody 34-room English-inspired beach cottage is complete with roaring fireplaces and vintage artwork. A few blocks south, a sister property on 8th Avenue is home to 24 guest rooms in a classic California Craftsman-style property surrounding a central courtyard. Every guest room is equipped with Diptyque amenities, Bellino fine linens, plush robes and slippers, and Marshall speakers. A Palisociety spin on a classic B&B means mornings get off to a strong start thanks to tableside Taittinger service alongside an assortment of local pastries and sourdough bread from the Rise + Roam bakery and jams from Marmalade Grove. Look for equally charming Le Petit Pali locations set to open in Brentwood and Laguna Beach in the months to come. palisociety.com.

Paintings Where the Colors of California Coalesce

Looking at one of Jennifer Guidi’s painted sand pieces is a bit like meditating, which is the intended effect. Her work is inspired by both ancient theories of energy and the colors of her California: the fleeting pink and red of sunrises and sunsets, the hazy light of Los Angeles, and the snow-capped mountains visible from her L.A. studio. Although Guidi has exhibited all over the world and has pieces in the Guggenheim Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, this month the Orange County Museum of Art presents her first museum solo show: Jennifer Guidi: And so it is. Along with a selection of Guidi’s previous work, the exhibition will debut several significant new paintings that focus on the importance of place, pushing the boundaries of the physical world to spiritual and metaphysical dimensions. The museum being only a few miles from Guidi’s birthplace in Redondo Beach, one can’t help but think it is certainly the right place. Sept. 15, 2023–Jan. 7, 2024; ocma.art.

Where to Shop in Wine Country

“From the minute I moved to St. Helena, it felt like home,” says Elyse Walker, the proprietor of eight luxury brick-and-mortar boutiques in locations including Pacific Palisades, Newport Beach, Calabasas, and New York. “The community not only embraced my husband and me but also welcomed our little store with open arms.” Now, nearly five years after the fashion heavyweight moved to the valley and opened her first shop there, Walker announces the relocation and expansion of her Napa boutique. Architect Janson Scuro designed the new space, which is a stone’s throw away from the former site, in warm neutral tones to set the stage for Walker’s highly curated collections of Bottega Veneta, Celine, Gucci, Hoorsenbuhs, Saint Laurent, The Row, Valentino, and Walters Faith, among others. 1381 Main St., St. Helena, 707-968-6105; elysewalker.com.

How to Lounge VIP Style at SoFi

In the land where nightclub turnover happens on a weekly basis, Bootsy Bellows has become something of an institution on Sunset Boulevard for Hollywood A-listers since it splashed onto the scene in 2012. Now, thanks to a new one-of-a-kind field-level lounge at SoFi Stadium, The h.wood Group founders John Terzian and Brian Toll are bringing the party to one of L.A.’s biggest stages. Conceived in Bootsy Bellows’ signature retro style (the club décor takes its cues from Frank Sinatra’s 1940s Palm Springs home), the new 2,000-square-foot lounge and cocktail bar has 24 front-row seats to take in Rams games and Beyoncé concerts (Ed Sheeran and Pink are also on the docket). In true Bootsy Bellows fashion, the lounge is complete with a DJ booth for private half-time dance parties and velvet emerald booths for bottle service that will make you feel every inch a VIP. hwoodgroup.com.

If You’re Going to Visit One Winery This Fall…
Just in time for fall harvest season, Jordan Winery & Vineyard, the celebrated producers of French-inspired Chardonnay and classic Cabernet in Sonoma, debuts the final touches to its reimagined château. Led by San Francisco–based interior designer Maria Khouri Haidamus, who also redesigned the Jordan Chateau Guest Suites in 2021, the new lobby is filled with museum-quality treasures the Jordan family has collected over the past 51 years, including armchairs from the Napoleon III period fashioned in new fabric, a collection of 18th-century drawings from the fabled Galerie Marie-Pierre Jaudel Antiquités in Paris, a custom Louis XVI–inspired walnut console, and decorative objects sourced from Paris and Provence. Outside, award-winning landscape designer Christian Douglas redesigned the lawn with dozens of boxwood topiaries and a chef’s garden for the estate’s Michelin-starred executive chef Jesse Mallgren. A gourmet picnic lunch with a bottle of aged estate Chardonnay in the garden? Oui, s’il-vous plaît! 1474 Alexander Valley Rd., Healdsburg, 707-431-5250; jordanwinery.com.
