The sparkling waters of Costa Smeralda, Italy, where Giorgio Armani’s 2022 Mare capsule celebrated its first popup amid the Superyacht Regatta sponsored by the Italian fashion house, contain all the marine hues of the new line itself. The collection, heralding summer’s arrival with everything under the sun required for a coastal escape, is based on a refreshingly concise palette of deep navy, cream, coral and hints of purple and red. Inspired by the white sand beaches of Northern Sardinia, the sea-worthy looks—including a line for women, and also one designed for men—are popping up now at the house’s Costa Mesa boutique.

GIORGIO ARMANI Mare wide-leg silk charmeuse pants, $1,895.

Double-breasted linen jacket, $2,995, macrame ribbon belt (draped), $545, and linen Bermuda shorts, $1,295.

The beloved Italian designer, who creates entire worlds devoted to design ideas (see Armani Casa), once constructed a collection around the color blue. His Mare capsule riffs on all the colors of sea, offering an elegant take on maritime dressing. Fringed silk frocks, cotton cord belts, leather-and-rope sandals, wide-leg silk charmeuse trousers in floral-inspired prints or wide soft crêpe linen pants seem particularly attuned to the Mediterranean’s breezes and coastal escapes. Sarong skirts drape atop one- and two-piece swimsuits. A jacquard bodysuit, two-tone striped top, blazers, linen Bermuda shorts and espadrilles in woven macrame are all imbued with a subtle nautical tenor.

Jacquard bodysuit, $725.

Small la Prima shoulder bag, $1,895.

Geometric patterns on men’s jackets, Bermuda shorts and caps, all made of viscose, linen and jacquard cotton, are also echoed in swim trunks, a gilet, pants, a short-sleeved sweater and an over-the-shoulder sack bag. Fuchsia board shorts, towels and two-toned swim trunks offer a jolt of color while vibrant red makes an appearance in polos and striped swim shorts. A vacation-ready embroidered tulip print appears on trunks (as well as geometric beach towels made of cotton terry cloth), rounding out the sea-adjacent men’s looks. The seasonal line, buoyed by Armani’s signature lightness, conjures exotic ports of call while its clean lines evoke summer in the city.
