The restored Victorian house.
In downtown Santa Barbara sits a 1903 Queen Anne-style home that was originally among a row of Victorian vacation dwellings. Now, fully renovated by spouses Jen Huang Bogan and Elihu Root Bogan, the Santa Barbara House hosts intimate, residential-style weddings. “It’s for the right type of bride. You have to have a love for old homes and backyard weddings,” says Jen, a wedding photographer and stylist. With four suites, a caterer’s kitchen, and a front lawn for ceremonies and cocktails, the home is primed for 30-person parties with dinners served in the sunken garden — complete with roses, Italian cypress and ancient olive trees. Says Jen: “It has a European, villa-like feel and it’s downtown, so afterward you can really take the party anywhere.”
