There is something so tempting about a shiny, red object. Perhaps a hint of devilish danger? Definitely a strong statement-maker, the hue is not necessarily a go-to choice for the reticent or retiring.

This season’s most covetable bags all have the shade in common. Lipstick red, cherry rouge, hottest chili. We selected the best red purses — from Bottega Veneta’s artfully sculpted clutch to Miu Miu’s easygoing pouch, Valentino’s romantic, flowered satchel or Alexander McQueen’s slick, quilted shoulder bag — and have decided sometimes it’s good to be caught red-handed.

MIU MIU bag, $2,050.

BOTTEGA VENETA BV Whirl clutch, $1,980.

VALENTINO GARAVANI Atelier 03 Rose Edition bag, $2,900.

OSCAR DE LA RENTA Mini TRO crossbody bag, $1,790.

ALEXANDER McQUEEN The Story shoulder bag, $2,890.

VERSACE Virtus large saddlebag, $2,125. Shop similar styles.

TORY BURCH Lee Radziwill saddlebag, $658.

BALMAIN B-Buzz 23 bag, $1,950.
