Vacheron Constantin previewed its Overseas Skeleton timepieces during a Beverly Hills gathering held in June at a private estate where director and cinematographer Louis Schwartzberg screened his new short film, The Anatomy of Beauty, created in collaboration with the Swiss house. Dakota Johnson, Riley Keough, Kate Mara, Chris Paul, Aldis Hodge, Travis Bennett and Nicole Richie got a first look at the project centered around the minute details of watch faces and hand-finished movements juxtaposed with the kaleidoscopic architecture of coral reefs, cloud formations, unfolding rainforest blooms, falling snow, undulating jellyfish and migrating butterflies. At the viewing, Schwartzberg—known for his captivating Fantastic Fungi documentary—pointed out that the interior of a Vacheron watch resembles the perpetual motion visible in nature. He sees parallels between the complexities of the natural world and those of the mechanized tickers, particularly at the surreal scale he uses to magnify the details of both.

Just as Schwartzberg trained his lenses on the crossover between the constant tick of watch movements and the precision of particular ecosystems, guests got an up-close look at the evolving intricacies of Vacheron’s new Overseas Ultra-Thin Perpetual Calendar skeleton watch. Now in 18-karat pink gold with a blue dial and 40-hour power reserve, the openwork mechanical movement is powered by hollowed out components satin-brushed to create a sunburst appearance. The self-winding Overseas Tourbillon Skeleton, designed for journeys with a three-day power reserve, is now also skeletonized and available entirely in Grade 5 titanium, a first for the storied Geneva-based house. The painstakingly created ultra-thin details certainly echo the inner workings of so many of the earth’s organic systems.
Steps from the new timepieces on display, rhythmic metronomic sounds from a composition created by French singer-songwriter and music video director Yoann Lemoine, known as Woodkid, accompanied a cocktail hour dance performance choreographed by Sara Silkin. DJ Daisy O’Dell and violinist and composer Josh Vietti also gave live performances post-screening at the event that additionally included a host of stylists such as Jeanne Yang, Tara Swennen, Ilaria Urbinati, Jamie Mizrahi, Jason Bolden, Jenny Ricker, Courtney Mays and Enrique Melendez.
