Buccellati’s Macri Color Collection May Be Its Brightest

The Italian jewelry house’s newest and boldest stones are having a moment

Color-saturated stones with subtle, light-reflecting facets and smooth cabochon faces radiate strikingly soft hues in Buccellati’s new Macri Color collection of rings, cuffs and earrings. The house’s trademark iridescent metals, created through ornate engraving techniques, amplify the gemstones and the intense chromatics of each pairing—from turquoise and emeralds to moonstones and sapphires to garnets and diamonds and more—in the new high jewelry launch. The starkly simple shapes and elegant metals bring out the vivid colors in each design.

Established over a century ago by master goldsmith Mario Buccellati and later his son Gianmaria, the jewelry house is known for the silk-like metal surfaces of its baubles. Artisans employ a technique called rigato, wherein they engrave small, thin parallel lines to create the muted texture characteristic of Buccellati’s designs. The metalsmiths also apply ornato engraving for embellishments in the Macri Color designs, weaving gold to appear as if damask or Venetian lace sits beneath the gem itself. Jewelry created using this house-specific artistry possess a certain lightness, inspiring fresh new interpretations for each stone setting.

The collection’s earrings, rings and bracelets take on the elegant proportions and hues of the house’s existing Cocktail line and expand on the Macri line named for Gianmaria’s daughter MariaCristina.

While other Macri variations incorporate ornate leaf-shaped rosettes and delicate white-gold flowers and diamonds, the eye-catching Macri Color designs add a vibrant new twist.
