The designer tapped Anderson .Paak to get the party started with an in-store DJ set

Tory Burch took over sun-drenched Rodeo Drive for the opening of her flagship boutique, reworked with eclectic decor in line with her ever-evolving eye for design, on Monday, May 12. The designer, who has spent more than two decades refining her ready-to-wear silhouettes, shoes, bags, and accessories, welcomed old friends and a slew of creatives wearing her looks, including Kate Hudson, Ciara, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rashida Jones, Awkwafina, Rachel Brosnahan, Jurnee Smollett, Allyson Felix, Jordan Chiles, Lana Condor, Madelaine Petsch, Chloe East, Maria Bakalova, Alisha Boe, Geraldine Viswanathan, and Lukita Maxwell. As Anderson .Paak took to the turntables, a spontaneous dance party began underneath the glass atrium on the space’s third floor, buoyed by riffs from jazz trumpeter Maurice “MoBetta” Brown.
On this warm spring evening, the three-story boutique, encased in a sculptural facade, housed all Burch’s mainstays, from Pierced handbags and Reva ballet shoes to accessories (whimsical charm-laden hoops and octopus chandelier earrings) and Tory Sport athleticwear for pickleball or tennis and golf. She tapped Gwenaël Nicolas, cofounder of Tokyo’s Curiosity design studio, for the redesign, and added a mix of furniture from a variety of sources, combining Swedish midcentury pieces with French deco and Italian modernism, plus a bit of Shaker minimalism. After Jello shots emblazoned with the store’s logo in Burch’s inimitable bright hues made the rounds along with caviar-piled chips, the crisp notes of Brown’s trumpet led everyone to dinner at Mr. Chow, where mentalist Matt Cooper held mind-reading sessions and Marjorie Gubelmann spun tunes as DJ Mad Marj. Also on hand for the bash were Humberto Leon, who helped dream up Burch’s L.A. pop-up to house her collections during the Beverly Hills revamp, plus Casey Fremont, Alex Israel, Frances Pennington, Kilo Kish, Harley Viera-Newton, Natalia Bryant, Clara Cullen, Max Ortega, and Salem Mitchell.
