The made-for-summer drop has a sun-faded ease

GapStudio, the fashion incubator developed within the American retailer’s New York headquarters, is forging ahead with a new collection centered around denim, chambray, and voile fabrics for the warm months ahead. Inspired by a walk along the ocean in lived-in jeans, executive vice president and creative director Zac Posen designed the summer drop, and hues are decidedly sun-soaked. Draped denim — a nod to a company classic — headlines the offering, and its liquid-soft feel and faded hues are the building blocks of coastal essentials in the making.
The sturdy staple appears in various iterations, from high-rise tailored trousers with undone edges to mid-rise baggy jeans, a figure-skimming slip dress, belted rompers, a cropped shirt, pull-on shorts, an ankle-length shirtdress, and Posen’s take on low-rise cutoffs. Also included are summer solstice standards such as printed crepe dresses in varying lengths, and cotton off-shoulder tops (Ayesha Curry recently wore a mesh version) to pair with the denim. There’s even a Studio sweatshirt with a worn-in vintage softness for chilly seaside nights. 2 Folsom St., S.F., 415-886-9902; gap.com.
