New nature-inspired works from Spencer Fung debut alongside John Wigmore’s latest ceramic lighting

On Thursday, April 4, the Ralph Pucci Los Angeles gallery celebrated the debut of Hong Kong-born architect, artist and furniture designer Spencer Fung’s latest collection of nature-inspired paintings. The event, which took place at Pucci’s 12,500-square-foot Hollywood studio, also highlighted a fresh 10-piece collection from Richard Meier Light and John Wigmore’s new ceramic lighting creations.
To create the paintings in his series “The Last Wilderness,” Fung utilized raw elements from nature (think earth, river water and moss) and drew inspiration from time spent among the trees in Sequoia National Park last year. “I was overwhelmed by the serene beauty, the magnificence and the resilience of the forest,” Fung said in a release from the gallery. “I painted with bold strokes in Chinese ink and soil, mixed with melting snow, to connect with the nature surrounding me. My paintings are emotional and abstract. ‘The Last Wilderness’ reveals the responsibility I feel to share the incredible raw beauty I found in the Sierra Nevada and the vulnerability of nature to human activity.”
Guests such as Zoe Cassavetes, Timothy Yarger, Herve Descottes and Mary Brogger took in Fung’s large-scale pieces (one towering, hand-painted mural occupies a wall of the gallery) as Wigmore’s paper lighting sculptures and Richard Meier Light’s industrial designs illuminated the party. The new collections will remain on view at Ralph Pucci Los Angeles through the fall.
