Los Angeles-based Heidi Merrick showcased her first full catwalk show — featuring her first foray into menswear — on Saturday, Oct. 12, inviting guests to rural Ventura County, where she owns 55 acres of pristine landscape, to experience her Spring 2020 collection. Upon arriving to the plot (also home to apple, pear and apricot groves), fans of the brand were greeted with trays of Veuve Clicquot and then ushered to their seats beneath a canopy of white umbrellas.

To sultry and upbeat classic rock tunes, models paraded the classic yet contemporary women’s and men’s looks. “From loose, tiered palm-print dresses and cute linen rompers to slick masculine-cut suits and sexy gold-sequined separates, everything felt luxurious and chic, whilst practical and ultra-easy at the same time,” said C Fashion Director Alison Edmond, who attended. “A feat most of us are trying to achieve in building our spring wardrobe.”

At the show’s conclusion, guests reconvened on a sprawling deck overlooking the property (a regular weekend getaway for Merrick and her family, where they like to cook under the stars and sleep in a quaint structure they affectionately refer to as “the library”) to enjoy vegan tacos and flowing Champagne while admiring the sunset.

Continued Edmond: “Merrick’s undeniable talent is understanding what women really want to wear — and now, it seems, men too.”
