Meet members of the “A” Team as early as 7 a.m. outside their shoreline hale (the Hawaiian word for “house”), where together you will select equipment for the day’s pursuits: a six-man outrigger canoe trip, a snorkel experience in search of tropical fish, or a satisfying paddleboard session.
With close proximity to so many dive spots home to unique marine life, Kohanaiki offers introductory classes, as well as dives with fully certified scuba masters, so that those interested can take full advantage of the area’s clear waters. Have a bigger mode of transportation in mind? Book the Kai Kea, Kohanaiki’s 39-foot yellowfin boat, for your day of snorkeling, diving or sport fishing in the prime stretch known as Ono Lane. Or treat yourself to whale watching or a laid-back coastline cruise as spinner dolphins do flips nearby.
Beyond curating and arranging these incredible adventures, the A Team — many of them a keiki o ka ‘aina (“child of the land”) — can share with Kohanaiki residents interesting information on the local reefs, currents, tides, flora and fauna, ecology, culture and the history of the islands.
