The eco-conscious e-tailer and friends championed the cause in West Hollywood
Words by KELSEY McKINNON
Amid the whirlwind Oscar weekend, another awards ceremony took place in Tinseltown to honor those who are committed to making the red carpet a little greener. Maison de Mode, the eo-conscious fashion e-tailer founded by Amanda Hearst and Hassan Pierre in 2014, hosted its third annual Sustainable Style Awards in partnership with Aveda on Saturday, Feb. 8.
The environmentally responsible 1 Hotel West Hollywood provided an earthy backdrop for a lineup of sustainably clad celebrity guests, including Nicky Hilton Rothschild, Karolina Kurkova, Maye Musk and Nikki Reed. Derek Blasberg presented Amber Valletta (C’s March covergirl) with the Sustainable Style Award, while Nadja Swarovski presented the Innovator Award to Margherita Maccapani Missoni. Every detail was considered, from chauffeured Teslas to the three-course plant-based menu Impossible Foods to florals that were repurposed and composted after the event by Repeat Roses.
As for the fashion, many of the looks were borrowed and jewelry came courtesy of Ame, which uses lab-grown diamonds. To take things a step further, the looks worn by many celebrity attendees were auctioned online the next morning on Maison de Mode, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting Charity:Water, a nonprofit that brings clean, safe drinking water to people in developing countries. Talk about a win-win.
