Giorgio Armani Throws a Pre-Oscars Party for Muse Nicole Kidman

The Oscar-nominated actress joined Roberta Armani to reopen the doors of a newly renovated Beverly Hills boutique

Words by ELIZABETH VARNELL

Fascinated both by the city itself and the region’s luminous film industry, Giorgio Armani not only opened a boutique on Rodeo Drive in the 1980s, but also set about dressing screen stars for their most glamorous moments. Armani’s impact on film (he’s provided costumes for over 200 movies) and the Academy Awards (he’s credited with single-handedly modernizing Oscar night looks) is nothing short of profound, and this year his niece Roberta Armani, who also has deep Hollywood roots, hosted a cocktail party in honor of house muse Nicole Kidman and the newly renovated boutique, held on the eve of the Oscars.

Kidman, who has known both members of the Armani family for decades and worn a stunning succession of Privé gowns to premiers, donned a black pantsuit and crystal-emblazoned bustier for the evening celebrating the best actress nomination she garnered for her role as Lucille Ball in Amazon Studios’ Being the Richardos.

Joining Armani and Kidman were Sophia Loren, Denis Villeneuve, Regé-Jean Page, Eve Jobs, Adrien Brody, Annabelle Wallis, Coleman Domingo, Mira Sorvino, Dylan Brosnan, Maria Bakalova, Olivia Culpo, Tiffany Haddish, Taylor Hill, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Barbara Palvin and Sebastian Stan. The guests got a first look at the boutique’s new glass facade emblazoned with images styled to evoke shadows of the palm trees lining the famed shopping street.

Inside, the 9,000-square-foot space awash in Armani/Casa furniture and lighting revealed reworked sections for ready-to-wear, eyewear, fragrance and beauty collections and also a limited eveningwear capsule for men and women that’s exclusive to the L.A. boutique. Velvet and jacquard designs in navy and black made up the men’s offerings while the women’s palette riffed on the house’s neutral gold tone that’s become a brand signature. Naturally, the hue also happens to bring to mind a certain coveted golden statue.
