C Magazine celebrated the arrival in Costa Mesa of Michael Kors’ runway line, Michael Kors Collection, at his eponymous South Coast Plaza boutique on Thursday, May 11. Guests gathered at chef Tony Esnault’s Michelin-starred Knife Pleat to dine on a multicourse menu before getting a first glimpse of the new Spring/Summer 2023 concepts inside the designer’s only California boutique to carry the Collection looks. The quip-ready creative, a master of sporty luxe who continues to perfect the clean lines and polished looks that have become essentials in the American fashion lexicon, devised body-conscious silhouettes, pleated trousers, and elongated blazers in classic neutrals for spring alongside bold red, fuchsia, and lime green dresses and skirts that are ideal for the summer months ahead.

As Champagne and macarons made the rounds inside the boutique—also housing lines including Michael Michael Kors and Michael Kors Mens—the sunny Collection pieces, inspired by a sleek combination of city life paired with the laid-back glamour of resorts, had a beachside ease. With looks built around maillots, the effortless designs had a particular West Coast appeal. Italian-made bags, shoes, and accessories rounded out the offerings inside the space, and a portion of proceeds from the afternoon benefited Every Mother Counts, Christy Turlington’s global nonprofit dedicated to improving access to maternity care and making pregnancy and childbirth safe. With all three labels under one roof, the Costa Mesa store offered guests a full immersion into the designer’s world, one that has always supported a host of health and well-being-related initiatives.
