Gwyneth Paltrow welcomed guests to her serene Montecito house on Friday, May 3, for an alfresco dinner hosted by goop and Loro Piana amid the lingering daylight of a long spring evening. Basil margaritas and rhubarb white negronis made the rounds as goop founder and CEO Paltrow — along with her husband, Brad Falchuk, and her children, Apple and Moses Martin — greeted Oprah Winfrey, Gayle King, Rob and Sheryl Lowe, Nicole Avant and Ted Sarandos, Juliet de Baubigny, Brigette Romanek, Anine Bing and Nicolai Nielsen, and Whitney Wolfe Herd. The assemblage got a look at the Italian house’s elegant Summer Resort 2024 wardrobe, which nods to the Tahitian embrace of la vie heureuse, the happy life. Natural fibers such as linens, silks, and cottons were used to create the line’s flowing silhouettes, including wide-legged trousers, wrap skirts, kimono-sleeved shirts, jumpsuits, jackets, and Bermudas, as well as vests and shorts with refined details embroidered with aloe-fiber-and-cashmere thread. Expanding on the collection’s island theme, floral motifs of hibiscus flowers and Tree of Life patterns joined subtle stripes and the nature-derived neutrals worn by many in attendance.
The line’s palette, ranging from the house’s signature kummel red to a deep blue, was echoed in the elegant blue-and-white porcelain dinnerware, part of Loro Piana’s L’Art de la Table offering, arranged atop poolside tables. Santa Barbara band Django Foxtrot, comprising Cal Arts Graduates, played its blend of jazz and pop covers. Once guests took their seats, Paltrow toasted the celebratory evening devoted to the art of living well, a philosophy prized by both goop and the Italian house known for its meticulous cashmere and range of innovative textiles. As the sun set, guests dined on seasonal Italian-inspired fare, including spring vegetables and burrata, carciofi alla giudia, striped bass, and wagyu steak bavette before desserts including fragrant basil semi-freddo and torta al cioccolato made the rounds.
