The Spanish fashion house previewed its Fall/Winter 2023 collection at Bette Davis’ former coastal residence

Loewe and C Magazine celebrated the arrival of the Spanish fashion house’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection designed by Jonathan Anderson at the brand’s South Coast Plaza boutique with a sun-soaked seaside luncheon held in Laguna Beach on Wednesday, September 20. Guests who gathered at the historic 1929 French Normandy–style house, once the residence of screen siren Bette Davis, got a first look at the new ruched Squeeze bag with its soft leather shape, customizable donut chain, and squishy handle in both small and medium sizes among other covetable pieces from the collection. The private house, perched on an oceanfront cliff, proved a breezy retreat for viewing the handbags launching in lush fall hues of chocolate, olive, oak, chalk, black, and a seaside blue perfectly suited to the afternoon. Fittingly, the unique new designs highlight the company’s heritage and its origins as a leather craftsmen collective in Madrid — now approaching its 177th anniversary.
Anderson’s fall shift dresses overprinted with beautifully blurry images of frocks made appearances at the gathering, as did his not-to-be-missed anthurium blooms among Loewe-clad guests who took their seats on a tiled balcony overlooking the Pacific for a lunch of burrata and stone fruit salad and Hudson Valley steelhead or Japanese sweet potatoes and crispy mushrooms followed by miso plum tarte tatin or stone fruit with vanilla diplomat cream — all prepared by Oliver English, the Venice-based chef, food advocate, and filmmaker. As the sun traveled across the afternoon sky, guests selected Thyme or Geranium outdoor candles from the Spanish house’s new garden collection to bring home.
