The California-raised siblings prove sisterhood is powerful while clad in the Italian brand’s spring collection.

Amid candy-colored safety-pinned dresses with slashes of silky Medusa prints and towering jewel-toned Triplatform sandals, a further eye-catching detail in Versace’s new images capturing the Milanese brand’s internet-breaking spring collection is the hair. Long ringlets of cascading blonde and brown lengths encircle Donatella Versace, Gigi and Bella Hadid as they embrace in Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott’s striking new visuals. The Versace designer’s trademark straight blonde tresses, and those of the Hadid sisters, take on a natural curl in playful contrast with the bold spring designs that debuted during a livestream presentation with fan traffic so heavy that it momentarily crashed Versace’s website.
Each image’s stark white backdrop framed by bits of a film negative’s rim bring to mind Richard Avedon’s work for the house. He and Gianni Versace shot together throughout the 80s and 90s and the pair’s bold pictures of It-girls in miniskirts, warring couples and playful portraits are all referenced here. The Hadid sisters appear in twinning latex bustier dresses, black frocks with cut-outs and carry the season’s new it-bag: the La Medusa mini bag. In other visuals, the sisters’ slashed black frocks bring to mind the brand’s 1994 dress worn by actor Elizabeth Hurley, and the collection also includes a number of Versace signatures including handkerchief tops in heritage prints, silk pajama sets, stone-washed denim, and fuchsia, yellow and green suits.

Donatella cites familial bonds and sisterly connections as inspiration for the Hadid siblings’ coordinated looks. “Family is always at the heart of everything I do, which is why I love Bella and Gigi so much,” she notes. For Donatella, the pair symbolizes Versace’s global sisterhood and the series of images depicts the notion of familial belonging in all its different forms.
For the sisters, the empowering bonds of friendship, sisterhood and togetherness are clearly impactful. “If you get to know your heroes, and they’re better than you could have dreamed, remind them!” writes Gigi in an Instagram series from the shoot she titled “Family.” Her sister Bella penned her own post about hanging with her sister and Donatella, adding, “This still makes me get the body chills.”
