Style File: What to Buy and Where to Shop in June

From Soludos’ arrival on Abbot Kinney to the first women’s styles from Kelly Slater’s Outerknown, here’s what’s catching our eye

Words by ANUSH J. BENLIYAN, MARGRIT JACOBSEN and MARIE LOOK

On Repeat
Contemporary womenswear label Allen Schwartz has debuted a pop-up at Platform through June 30, where you can shop an exclusive L.A. capsule collection in addition to the brand’s Pre-Fall and Spring/Summer looks. Inspired by an effortless aesthetic, the 10-piece capsule collection features dresses, skirts, pants and tops in flowy fabrics in shades of white, pale pink, nude, lime, coral and others. Recently reinvented, Allen Schwartz (formerly known as ABS) was once a go-to for ’90s “it” girls like Julia Roberts, Michelle Pfeiffer and Sharon Stone. Relaunched in 2017 with creative designer and director Bianca Bernal at the helm, the Los Angeles-based manufactures every piece downtown and in small batches to prevent waste. Allen Schwartz is celebrating with special events throughout the month: Don’t miss the puppy adoption event, in partnership with Animal Rescue Mission, on June 16, or the ABS by Allen Schwartz vintage sale on June 22. Platform, 8810 Washington Blvd., L.A.

A Place in the Sun
Following The Summer Shop’s successful first iteration in New York City last year, Levi’s has partnered with labels HVN, Liana and Alison Lou to bring the pop-up to the West Coast for the first time this season. Open through June 30, the temporary West Hollywood boutique offers warm-weather staples including cut-offs, Trucker jackets and other all-American classics from Levi’s; versatile, vintage-inspired printed dresses from HVN; and Liana’s lightweight tanks and comfy jogger sets. Plus, patrons can score the latest seasonal accessories, among them Alison Lou’s coveted Loucite jelly hoop earrings, sandals from Cornetti, Susan Alexandra handbags and more. The Summer Shop will also host exclusive in-store events and activations, from Levi’s customizations to facials with Barbara Sturm and Alison Lou piercing parties. 8476 Melrose Place, L.A.

Head Over Heels
Bringing its first-ever West Coast store to Venice, Soho-born shoemaker Soludos arrives on Abbot Kinney Boulevard with its signature espadrilles, wedges and mules aplenty. Marking the third physical store for the traditionally direct-to-consumer brand, Soludos’ new Summer Shoppe in Venice includes the full range of chic men’s and women’s styles. Peruse best-sellers for her, such as the leather and suede Venetian mules, platform sandals and smoking slippers embroidered with playful graphics and sayings (“ciao bella,” “la vie en rosé”); or favorites for him, like the Derby lace-ups and original classic striped slip-ons. Made with responsibly sourced jute and mesh fabric woven from recycled water bottles, the casual styles seem always at the ready for a day at the beach, a far-flung adventure or errands around town. 1410 Abbot Kinney Blvd., Venice.

Good Nature
Outerknown, the eco-friendly clothing line by surfer, entrepreneur and activist Kelly Slater and creative director John Moore, has just opened its first brick-and-mortar shop in Culver City — appropriately named Outerspace — plus launched its first-ever women’s collection. With design materials such as rough-cut stone, brick, smooth concrete and wood, the store’s interior reflects the natural, sustainable style synonymous with the brand’s signature and curated collections. The debut women’s collection comprises 17 essentials you’ll want for warm beach days and cool summer nights: tops, bottoms and dresses made of 100-percent organic recycled or regenerated fibers. And what’s better than expanding your maxi dress wardrobe, while also doing your part in keeping fashion clean? By appointment only. 9300 Jefferson Blvd., Culver City.

La Bohème
Australian designer Lucy Folk’s bold, fanciful jewelry and accessories — favorited by the likes of Jessica Biel and Dree Hemingway — are now available to its California fans through a new e-commerce platform. The launch, which Folk recently celebrated with a bohemian bash in Los Angeles, coincides with the debut of the label’s Guru collection. The new Pre-Fall range takes inspiration from nature’s splendor and Folk’s own wanderlust, and features textured gold-tinged earrings, psychedelic rings, crocheted anklets, beaded mini box bags and more.
