Sir Paul Smith and Gabriela Hearst welcomed an intimate crowd of actors, artists, musicians, and friends from planet fashion to Chateau Marmont to celebrate the launch of their limited-edition collection. The candlelit dinner, held high above Sunset Boulevard in Penthouse 64, brought together notable names from across the creative industries, including actors Edward Norton, Quinta Brunson, Jessica Alba, Joshua Jackson, Chase Stokes, and John Boyega, plus musicians Diplo and Michael Stipe, and model Quannah Chasinghorse.

Smith drew inspiration for the designs from two photographs taken decades ago by his father, a textile professional and amateur photographer, in the British countryside during the 1950s and ’60s. One image captured the stillness of a mountain landscape; the other, the movement of a cascading waterfall. Nature has long informed Hearst’s work both aesthetically and philosophically, making the imagery an unexpectedly seamless point of creative connection.

Across 14 men’s and women’s pieces, the collaboration merges their respective worlds through artisanal techniques and refined tailoring. Silk satin trench coats and bias-cut slip dresses reference shifting horizons and moving landscapes, while all-over prints on Italian-made virgin wool barré suiting bring painterly softness to classic structure. Accessories reinterpret the landscape imagery across signature Gabriela Hearst silhouettes such as the Nina and Demi bags.

Hearst, who grew up on her family’s ranch in Uruguay, has built her namesake label around the idea of “honest luxury” — beautifully crafted pieces designed to endure. Since launching the brand in 2015, she has become one of fashion’s leading voices on sustainability, pioneering practices including deadstock fabric use, plastic-free runway shows, and the industry’s first carbon-neutral runway presentation for Spring/Summer 2020. Her work has earned recognition from the CFDA, Time magazine, the British Fashion Council, and National Geographic, among many others.

Smith, meanwhile, remains one of Britain’s most celebrated independent designers. Since opening his first small shop in Nottingham in 1970, he has grown Paul Smith into a global enterprise with more than 140 stores across over 50 countries, while maintaining the wit, optimism, and curiosity that have defined his work for more than five decades.
