Stars and guests raised $1.8 million to help fund cancer research

On Friday, Feb. 28, supporters and survivors alike returned for An Unforgettable Evening, the annual fete of The Women’s Cancer Research Fund. Among those walking the hot pink carpet at the Beverly Wilshire Beverly Hills, a Four Seasons Hotel, were host and actor Ken Jeong, and honorary chairs Rita Wilson and Kate Capshaw. However, all eyes were on the evening’s star, Renée Zellweger.
Arriving in a black lace gown by Gucci, the recent Best Actress winner (for her role as Judy Garland in Judy) joined a list of women including Stella McCartney, Gwyneth Paltrow and Gabrielle Union, all of whom have been honored by the organization for their charitable contributions and philanthropic efforts throughout their careers.
Upon being presented the Courage Award by Wilson, Zellweger turned to the crowd of guests — among them, model Camila Alves McConaughey and designers Tom Ford, Rachel Zoe and Monique Lhuillier — with words in support of her longtime publicist and friend, Nanci Ryder, who has displayed transparency during her battles with breast cancer and ALS.
Addressing the other guests, Zellweger applauded Ryder and spoke about how courageous acts, even small ones, can touch the lives of others, encouraging them to face their own fears.
After much applause, the Jonas Brothers — Kevin, Joe and Nick — brought everyone to their feet with a performance of several of their hits.
