A redesign of The Restaurant at Auberge du Soleil puts panoramic views front and center
Words by LESLEY McKENZIE
The Restaurant at Auberge du Soleil — long revered as a beacon of culinary excellence in Napa Valley, with 17 consecutive Michelin Stars to its name — has once again raised the bar with a meticulous redesign of the Main House, home to both The Restaurant and its more casual counterpart, The Bar. This transformation melds the storied elegance of its French-inspired origins with the unpretentious charm of California wine country.
Completed in 2024, the remodel — led by renowned designer Suzanne Tucker of Tucker and Marks in San Francisco — unfolds the moment guests step into the foyer. Custom steel-framed windows and French doors flood the space with Napa’s signature golden light, drawing the eye to panoramic views of the surrounding valley. The Bar, relocated to the opposite side of the interior, now maximizes these bucolic vistas, best enjoyed from the vantage point of two built-in banquettes. A corkscrew-shaped iron chandelier spirals down from the 20-foot-high conical roof, its glow reflecting off an organic palette that includes French white oak flooring and dining tables topped with glazed ivory lava stone.
No stranger to standard-bearing design, the Restaurant at Auberge du Soleil, which opened its doors in 1981, was originally envisioned by Michael Taylor, credited as the creator of the airy, light-filled California look. Its most recent refresh follows on the heels of a years-long, property-wide renovation of Auberge du Soleil, overseen by Tucker.
Diners can experience the newly reimagined interiors of The Restaurant and The Bar during Champagne Week (October 21–27), when The Restaurant will offer a six-course prix fixe tasting dinner and a three-course paired lunch, both featuring Champagne pairings. During the Gathering in the Grove: Olive Harvest (November 18–24), The Restaurant will feature an Olives Six Ways tasting menu, and The Bar will serve up specialty olive-inspired dishes and cocktails such as La Poire Olive, a pear-ginger olive oil sour.
