Situated on the very walkable West Third Street, the hotel offers an antidote to bustling Sunset Boulevard

Meet your latest crush: The new Palihouse West Hollywood has looks and personality. And it smells good, too.
Opened in December 2022 on the site of the onetime Orlando Hotel, a nondescript blank slate ripe for creativity, this new spot—with 95 guest rooms, a pool, a sushi restaurant, and a café—embodies the eclectic luxury hotelier from the moment guests enter the lobby, from its green-and-white checkered tile floors to the Diptyque Baies fragrance that pervades.
Boutique hotels are often criticized for being spare and cookie-cutter, but in signature Palisociety style (a California-based vibe first established in 2008), the “new-fashioned” design here is cheeky, magnifying both the traditional and modern with a chic wink and a nudge. There is no fear of blending color or pattern, of mixing references and metaphors, of combining contemporary photography and painted portraiture. “The aesthetic is meant to evoke a warm, inviting, and considered hotel in the tradition of a trusty grand European inn,” says Avi Brosh, founder of Palisociety. “That said, we selected finishes…to illustrate that vibrant and distinctly California quirky cool.”
Ornate florals abound, from the hall carpets to the lobby ceiling, juxtaposed with minimal details like hanging swag lamps and mid-century quilted leather sofas. The backdrop to the front desk—with its shaped top, curtains, and pill-shaped light fixtures—is like something from the Orient Express. And, in keeping with Palisociety’s ethos, the true experience is in the details—from colorful tapestry toile wallpaper and in-room rotary phones to Peloton bikes and an indoor pool lounge with complimentary lemonade and candy.
The property has also capitalized on its very walkable location on West Third Street, down the way from high-end shops like Le Labo and Raquel Allegra, launching a hand roll window to appeal to peckish passersby. So, even from the outside, it’s love at first sight.
