From reimagined spa sanctuaries to refreshed fairways, Omni La Costa debuts a modern take on the winter getaway

A fixture on the Southern California getaway scene since its 1965 debut, the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa has earned its stripes as an expansive playground for wellness seekers, active families, and anyone craving a restorative escape.

Spanning 400 acres of Spanish Mission–style architecture and lush grounds, the resort — tucked into the rolling foothills of Carlsbad and just minutes from pristine coastline — now offers another compelling reason to rediscover a California classic 60 years later, thanks to a sweeping multi-year renovation completed in 2024.

Beyond its 600 rooms, suites, and villas, the resort’s allure lies in the sheer breadth of experiences available on property. Serious golfers can head straight for the resort’s two renowned championship courses, both with redesigned greens and updated landscaping. Separately, a robust racquet program caters to every skill level: tennis and pickleball enthusiasts will find weekly camps across 12 hard and clay courts, while budding players can practice their swings in Junior Golf Clinics led by PGA-certified pros.

Wellness takes center stage at the 43,000-square-foot Spa at La Costa, a tranquil oasis of gardens, pools, and more than 40 treatment rooms, where offerings range from Ayurveda to Hawaiian healing therapies. The Revitalizing Five Point Star Treatment — which focuses on the body’s energy centers through massage — leaves guests feeling calm and restored. Meanwhile, a state-of-the-art fitness club features a lineup spanning personal training to power boxing and Zumba.

Families have plenty to explore, too. The reimagined Little Sprouts Kids Club offers daily hands-on programming for children, while eight sparkling pools, including an adults-only retreat and two thrill-inducing 100-foot waterslides, provide all-ages entertainment.

Five on-site restaurants round out the experience, from Vue’s Baja-leaning coastal dishes (a Happy Grillmore burger, anyone?) to the classic steakhouse signatures at Bob’s Steak & Chop House. And for a little holiday cheer, don’t miss Blitzen’s, a seasonal pop-up bar dressed in twinkle lights and winter accents, where a festive cocktail is guaranteed to get you in the holiday spirit. 2100 Costa Del Mar Rd., Carlsbad; omnihotels.com.
